This nickel-iron meteorite is named Muonionalusta after the place near the Muonio River, in Sweden, where it was found in the year 1906.
On its surface, the Muonionalusta shows a characteristic network of bands called Widmanstätten patterns (or Thomson structures) which can be plainly seen with the naked eye.
Its age has been estimated at 4.5 billion years.
